The holidays are soon approaching (crazy I know), which means all the stores will be packed full of people searching for gifts. Now, you don’t want to be stuck with what’s left so it’s better to shop earlier rather than later so you have some time to peruse the stores merchandise, find the right gift, and hopefully find it at a good price!
Kat and I typically find that our parents never want anything for the holidays except their typical answer of wanting to spend it with us. Of course even if they say they don’t want anything or need anything we always want to find them something special. Especially because they always make sure we have everything we want and need and often forget about treating themselves.
This gift guide is here to help you find the perfect gift for your mom or that mother figure in your life! Now, I don’t know about you guys, but I love shopping for other people. Seriously, Kat and I both say that our dream job would be a personal shopper- it’s even better when you don’t have to spend your own money haha.
But even when we are spending our own money it’s a great feeling to buy someone you care about something special! For parents, it makes it more difficult when they say they don’t want anything because then we have no ideas of what to get them. So typically, we try to narrow it down by seeing what they use a lot, never buy for themselves, or what they don’t have but could use. For most moms we usually look for things they wear including but not limited to: purses, watch (or other accessories), perfume, or clothing.
One of our favorite things to buy for a mom is a purse simply because they use it everyday and buying a nice, quality made purse is a special gift because most moms don’t treat themselves to one that is on the pricier side even though they use it everyday. Kat and I suggest trying to pick a purse color that goes with most outfits like nude, brown, or black. Although we love bags in all colors, it’s important to remember whom you’re buying for and treat them to a color that they like and don’t have. Designer purses like Michael Kors, Kate Spade, and Rebecca Minkoff can be found at Marshalls and TJ Maxx for great prices!
My next favorite gift to buy for a mom is perfume especially because my mom always asks which one I’m wearing. It is important to know your mom (which is expected ha) because picking out a scent that she likes can be tricky.
However, if she compliments you on yours, likes one that is in a magazine or smells a good one at the department store those are great ways to pick one that she will like. Otherwise, when you’re out shopping with her you can be a bit sneaky and tell her to sniff a perfume because you think it smells so good and than observe her reaction. Brands like Dolce & Gabana, Jimmy Choo, and Burberry can be found at TJ Maxx and Marshalls for much cheaper than department stores!
Clothing is probably the most difficult gift to give because everyone’s style and size varies. Like Kat said in her post about Marshall’s, it is important to try everything on! So, that makes it difficult to shop for other people when they can’t try it on. However, there have been certain occasions where I bought a shirt for someone else and they ended up loving it and it fit perfectly. You really just have to go with your gut and make sure it’ll suit the person you’re buying it for and that you can get a receipt so they can exchange it. Otherwise, it’s better just to buy them a gift card to the store so they can buy with it whatever they want!
Jewelry is a much easier to buy for someone when you know them because you know if they wear watches, necklaces, bracelets, or earrings and the styles of each. Most moms love to wear some kind of accessory when going out for any reason so it’s nice to treat them to a classy pair of earrings or a nice watch. As I said in my Ross post, designer watches and jewelry can be found for great prices as Ross. TJ Maxx has an extensive jewelry section too, so there are plenty of options to choose from!
I know all these items can be very pricey and we are trying to give you guys tips on how to buy nice gifts for great deals so I’m going to let you all in on a little secret-you can buy all of this stuff at Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, and Ross for great prices! You can find clothes at all three stores, but TJ Maxx and Ross have a wide selection of jewelry while Marshalls and TJ Maxx have a wide variety of fragrances and purses.
I hope this gives you guys some ideas of what to shop for when figuring out what to get your mom or motherly figure in your life! Please share with us your gift ideas for anyone because we’d love your input!
